Origins of "Three Horse Shoes" as a Pub Name
The Three Horse Shoes feature on the arms of The Worshipful Company of Farriers - and farriers were often employed by coaching inns to look after the welfare of the horses coming through. "Horseshoes" is also a lawn game where old horse shoes are 'pitched' (thrown) towards stakes in the ground and this may have featured at some establishments.
