Origins of "Oddfellows Arms" as a Pub Name
The Independent Order of Oddfellows (IOOF) is a popular organization in the UK, and there are many IOOF lodges throughout the country. This means that it is not uncommon for pubs to be located near or owned by IOOF members. As a result, it is likely that some pubs were named "Oddfellows Arms" simply because they were associated with the IOOF.
However, there is also a more historical reason why some pubs might be called "Oddfellows Arms". In the early days of the IOOF, the organization was often seen as a way for people to help each other in times of need. This made it a popular organization among the working class, and many pubs were frequented by IOOF members. As a result, some pubs may have been named "Oddfellows Arms" as a way to attract customers from the working class.
