Origins of "Plough" as a Pub Name

Farming implements were easily sourced items to use as pub "signs" in the countryside and ploughs were quite commonly used in this way. Pictorial names for pubs were commonplace in areas with high illiteracy as a differentiator. Some pubs called The Plough refer to the constellation of seven stars - also giving rise to other pubs of this common name.
