Origins of "Prince of Wales " as a Pub Name

Generally a reference to an historic or the current Prince of Wales at the point of opening or renaming the pub. The Prince of Wales is the title of the heir to the monarch, the most famous and popular example being Albert Edward in Victorian times when many pubs were established, and in modern times Charles Windsor, son and heir to Queen Elizabeth II. Further in history Edward of Woodstock (aka the Black Prince), son and heir of King Edward III, was a successful commander during the Hundred Years War.
