"We want you to feel the history in the Pub so we have been very careful not to remove the old charm and character in our latest refurb, the floor tiles may have been professionally cleaned and had a protected coat put on them, but they are still a bit wobbly and remind you of the sailors that have spilt beer on them in the past."

Origins of "Anchor" as a Pub Name
There are two common origins of the Anchor pub name. The first of course is the maritime connection, a ship's anchor, and many coastal pubs called the Anchor are likely to have this root. The second is a Christian biblican reference from the Letter to the Hebrews "we have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul - a hope".
